Spanish 3-4 course

Spanish 3-4 is a second year Spanish language class in which the language skills, you learned in the your first year of study will be reviewed and expanded.

What will we learn this year?

The goal is to move students from the novice level of Spanish to the intermediate level. These levels are defined by the American council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTEFL) and California’s state standards and framework. This requires working on:

Path through forest, Olympic peninsula
Into the forest we go

Interpersonal communication
Presentational speaking
Presentational writing
Interpretive listening
Interpretive reading

Goals and Objectives

The main purpose of the study of any foreign language is communication. One of the goals of this course is to present language that can be used in real world situations and to encourage the use of Spanish for a lifetime of personal enjoyment and enrichment. In addition, it is my hope that students will develop an appreciation for the diversity of Hispanic culture and continue seeking communicative proficiency through further Spanish course work.

Classroom expectations

  • Bring a positive attitude to class.smiling thumbs up golden ball dude
  • Respect:  yourself and everyone else.
  • Be in your seat when the bell ring.
  • Stay in your seat when the bell rings until you are dismissed by your teacher.
  • Keep the room clean and respect the furniture and carpet
  • Speak as much Spanish as you can while in class. You can’t learn much Spanish if all you do is speak English in Spanish class.

Text book: Realidades 2 and the course workbook.

Supplementary materials: I will provide students with materials that I have created, materials from other sources and from my web site.

Videos

Videos: Realidades 2 DVDs and some G and PG-rated movies, TV shows and educational films (all in Spanish) to help students to get used to listening to Spanish and practice understanding natural spoken Spanish. I will send a notification home before a video is show.

I would like to show Inside Out, Brave and other G rated movies to expose my students to the language and to teach. Some days I will pull a scene from a movie to teach some vocabulary, grammar, usage and cultural background.
